Great case of “skeptics missing the point”.
Oprah’s Secret / “The law of attraction” is a multi-million dollar industry
that deserves to be ridiculed, and of course there is no evidence for
telepathy/telekinesis etc bla bla – but of course there are perfectly
common sense ways in which “the law of attraction” works.
    For example:

    - by consistently focusing on something you come up with more ideas on how
    to achieve it

    - by persistently visualizing something you are more likely to be paying
attention when an actual opportunity comes along

    - in the process of visualising you make up your mind about what exactly it
is you want, so you have an easier time choosing and making the right

The world around us is very rich – we don’t even notice most of what is
actually present in our environment. That is where “the law of attraction”
comes in – it doesn’t really “attract” anything, it just makes you figure
out what you want so you notice it when it’s there, discover and construct
    opportunities etc.

The “magic” of it is just in a different domain, and while it’s good to
criticise+dismantle empty hocus pocus, it’s also easy to miss valid points
due to a simple lack of fantasy and imagination (such is the case with this

The Secret is that when you are so obsessed with something or someone that
you thinking about it all the time and almost all of your activities is
about it as well as your conversations with other people, you will
eventually get what you want. Or not. But when you get it you get it by:
    1. Talking about it so much that someone throws you with it.
    2. Fanatizing yourself so you become finacnially (or in other ways) more
efficient and therefore can afford it.
    3. By an accident or a coinscidence somewhere in the future.

Many of the so-called “life coaches” believe in the Secret. It’s right up
there with crystals, astrology, and spoon bending. Thanks for creating this

Okay, you need to get a dictionary and look up parody. Then you need to
remember that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” There was
nothing in this video that “dilute[d[” the MythBusters brand. It was simply
a take off to make a point. Don’t be so sensitive about the things you
love. We love MythBusters too. So, take it easy, sit down, take a breath,
and realize that this is all done in good fun, with a good heart and
intent, and with deep respect. BTW, if they liked it, so can you.

That’s a lot of negativity you’re attracting to yourself. I’d be watching
myself the next few days if I were you. And it’s nice to now that you and
the universe don’t care about those less well off. What a beautiful

BTW, since you haven’t seen “The Secret,” I’ll tell you that the bit in
question was based on a guy in “The Secret” saying that he can get the
parking spot he wants 95% of the time (don’t know if that applies to the
holiday season) — just by focusing and asking the Universe. 5% of the
time, he has to wait a little while. Ha!!!

Christians come to the atheism forum on Craigslist and claim that children
die in Africa because they or their parents are doing something wrong. This
line of argument will not work with those people.
